| About I love trying out new things, especially when it comes to internet technology. I never really kept a journal, but it's something that I've always wanted to do. Now, everybody will get a chance to look inside my twisted, and somewhat-warped mind.
I've also subscribed to Audio Blog, so a few times a week, I'll leave actual voice blogs. Very cool!XML Newsfeed Previous Posts

Darker Days for Some... There are people that work in pathetic, bureaucratic work environments. It's no way to live. Brighter Days at Home... Literally No headlights. Can you believe that!? That's right, for the last two weeks, my headlights have been there just for show... turn on the switch and nothing but darkness. It's not a very good thing. I actually had to use Josh's car once, because I had to get to work when it was still dark out. It's no way to live. Part of the problem, I think, is that I've been using high-intensity IPF lights, instead of the traditional, sealed-beam Sylvania lights. It's a Jeep thing... you wouldn't understand. At first I thought it was the IPF lights... that they were drawing too much current. No fuses blown. No fusible links melted. No melted wires. I've scratched my head for weeks. Regardless, I downgraded back to the Sylvania lights. No dice. Still darkness. I then tore my Jeep apart, starting from the dash. I was looking for the melted wires. Nada. I spent a few hours on Sunday trying to find the rogue wiring. Nothing. I even tore open the light switch. Fusible link was intact. It got cold and dark, so I surrendered. There's light at the end of the tunnel... Today, I decided to take another stab at the root-cause analysis. I brought my trusty multimeter and started taking measurements. All the hot wires leading into the headlight switch were hot... they were 12V! WTF? So, I decided to short the fusible link and voila... "Let there be light!" The damn switch was bad! The fusible link was totally intact (i.e. it was not melted)! But were it mated to the copper plate, it wasn't making contact. Perhaps the tiny piece of solder melted. Perhaps the fusible link did its job. Not sure. So now I have a new switch on order. Damn $4 switch is costing me $23 from the dealership. So now I will again have headlights! At least something positive came from the day. posted by Dino at 11:27 PM (permanent link) |
