About
I love trying out new things, especially when it comes to internet technology. I never really kept a journal, but it's something that I've always wanted to do. Now, everybody will get a chance to look inside my twisted, and somewhat-warped mind. I've also subscribed to Audio Blog, so a few times a week, I'll leave actual voice blogs. Very cool!

Pre-Thanksgiving Update

It's been a while since I've written an update in my Blog. Life sort of got in the way.
Danielle and I are now husband and wife. It's nice to be considered one unit. Honeymoon in Hawaii was nice. Would we go back? Probably not. Way too expensive and the flight is way too long. Hawaii is great for people that live in L.A. The Carribean is nice for people that live in the midwest. We live in the midwest. One airport and four hours to fly to the Carribean sure beats two airports and 11 hours to fly to Hawaii. My scuba diving experience: 1 out of 5 stars. I would never scuba dive again in Hawaii. I've seen clearer conditions and more colors and wildlife in West Palm Beach, Florida. Plus, let's talk about the boat ride. Can you imagine choppy seas with ten foot swells? That's a good day in the open water of Hawaii. Four out of ten people on my charter boat were hurling. The only reason I didn't hurl was because I accidentally took a hit of Dramamine before the boat ride. I did it just for insurance, knowing it would make my dive experience an irritable one. See, Dramamine numbs the central nervous system. Your brain is attached to that. Dramamine makes me drowsy, irritable and crabby. Slow people bother me. Long, drawn-out pre-dive speeches bother me. When the boat stops, I can be in the water, down to 60' in three minutes. It takes most beginners at least 15 minutes, and then there's the others that just like to take their sweet time. We're here to dive, buddy, not to massage our masks for 20 minutes with defog. The only thing that made the dive charter to Molokai Reef worth the pounding seas and the smell of stomach bile, was that we did run into a school of dolphin at least 100-deep. And they were friendly! They hung out around the boat, jumped out of the water playing "watch me do a 360", and practiced "touch the keel" with one another. I hung out at the bow, as far forward as I could go, to get away from the masses behind me. I wanted the dolphin encounter to be a personl experience. A few dolphin were looking up, wondering what the dumb human was doing hanging over the bow. I tried some sign language and a little body language, and they just kept coming and leaving.

We did do a great deal of touring while we were on the islands. We didn't go on any 15-mile day hikes, or even 3-mile day hikes for that matter. Our motto: you can cover more ground in a Grand Cherokee. And we did. We took way too many pictures, but they are available on in my Photo Archives if anybody is interested.

Now that we're back at the ranch, there have been some changes. Danielle is fully moved in. Well, not fully fully, but mostly. Let's see... I lost my closet. No big deal. Danielle has more clothes and more shoes. I did retain most of my drawers, but I had to go through my tried-and-true stuff and donate half to the Salvation Army. And I'm still not done donating. Boxes are still everywhere. Shower gifts take up one corner of the basement. We still lack furniture up in the living room. We never use that room anyway. As soon as we get situated, we plan on moving up the home theater system and making the living room its new home. It's a big job, because I have surround sound, and I'm going to have to figure out how I'm going to wire that room. But we do plan on moving very soon, so I don't even know why I'm concerned. We may never get the home theater ever set up in that room before we sell the house. I think we do, though. And I think we will need some furniture in that room to just make the house look more appealing to prospective buyers. Maybe not. Who knows.

What else? Gut the kitchen. Yes, that's right. The kitchen needs to be gutted, from the ground up. Sad. We lost our dishwarsher to old age a few weeks ago. It really put up a fight... a few gallons of water, at least, made its way through the floor and into the basement. Basically, 25% of my kitchen floor is rotten, through the linoleum, though the underlayment, through another layer of linoleum, through another layer of underlayment, a few layers of plywood, and one layer of circa 1967 tile. It's a mess. The whole floor needs to be gutted right down to the joists. Maybe the subfloor can be saved (they used hardwood back in the 60's. We even filed an insurance claim. Didn't get much, but it's something that will help. So the way I look at it, everything needs to come out of the kitchen: refrigerator, stove, and cabinets (dishwarsher is already in the driveway suntanning). Then, the entire floor needs to get gutted. What a nasty job. I guess with everything out of the kitchen, it should be easy. But shit, we're selling the damn house! Why am I dealing with this now!? Oh well. Maybe I'll do the work myself. I don't see any other way of making this fix cost-effective. I wish we could just sell the house as-is. But we know we can't.

All this work, and not enough time. With Thanksgiving and Christmas around the corner, plus add the fact that I'm addicted to Rome: Total War (a computer game), and World of Warcraft is coming out on Nov 23, this is going to be a very busy fourth quarter.
